Selective Image Compressor

See every image in a PDF and choose, image by image or by rule, how much each one is compressed - shrink the oversized photos and leave the logo, signature and chart alone.

Every image in the document is listed once - with its pixel size, its effective resolution where it is actually drawn, its colour mode and compression, and the pages it appears on. Set a target resolution and quality, or pick a preset, and each image shows what it would shrink to before anything changes. Compare any image before and after with a split slider.

Barcodes, QR codes, signatures, logos and line art are protected by default, scanned pages keep their searchable text, and an image is only replaced when the new version is meaningfully smaller. Every page of the result is compared with the original, and a per-image report shows what was done and why.

Simple workflow

How it works

  1. 1

    Add PDFs

Every image is listed with its resolution, size and the pages it appears on.

  2. 2

    Choose what to shrink

Use rules or presets, keep or skip any image by hand, and check the before/after preview.

  3. 3

    Compress

Download the compressed PDF and the per-image report.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Compress PDF?

Compress PDF applies one setting to the whole file. Here you decide image by image - shrink the twelve oversized photos and leave the logo, the signature and the chart exactly as they are.

What is effective DPI?

An image's pixels divided by the size it is drawn at on the page. A 3000-pixel photo shown 2 inches wide is 1500 DPI - far more detail than a screen or printer can use. When the same image appears at several sizes, its largest appearance decides, so no page loses detail it needs.

Will my scanned PDF stay searchable?

Yes. Only the images change - the hidden text layer that makes a scan searchable, bookmarks, links, form fields and annotations are left exactly as they were.

Why was an image I selected not compressed?

An image is only replaced when the new version is at least a few percent smaller - otherwise the original stays. Barcodes, QR codes, signatures, logos and tiny images are protected unless you choose to compress them anyway. The report lists the reason for every image.
