Bleed and Trim Adder

Add print bleed and safe-margin guides to a PDF - extends a detected background color (or a plain fill) into the new bleed area and flags any page where the artwork doesn't actually reach the edge.

This tool reads each page's existing trim and bleed boxes (falling back to the page's own MediaBox when no trim box is defined), expands them outward by the bleed amount you set, and fills the new bleed region so it isn't left blank: a full-page background color is detected and extended natively when present, or a plain solid color fills it instead. A live guide overlay - solid for trim, dashed for bleed, dotted for the safe margin - updates as you change settings, and any page whose artwork doesn't already reach its trim edge is flagged rather than silently faked.

This tool deliberately never stretches or rasterizes real edge content to fill the new bleed - only a genuine, already-solid background gets extended, since there's no reliable way to tell that apart from text or detailed art sitting at the edge, and stretching the latter would produce an unnatural, smeared result. Content itself is left exactly where it is unless you explicitly ask to resize the trim and scale content to fit.

Simple workflow

How it works

  1. 1

    Add PDFs

Add one or more PDFs and set your bleed amount and safe margin.

  2. 2

    Detect current geometry

See each page's current trim/bleed size and a live preview of the new guides overlaid on the page.

  3. 3

    Apply & download

Apply the bleed and trim, then download the corrected PDF plus a guide-sheet reference for your print shop.

Frequently asked questions

Will this stretch my photos or artwork to fill the new bleed?

No. Only a genuine, detected full-page background color is extended, or you can choose a plain solid-color fill instead - real edge content (photos, text, detailed art) is never rasterized or stretched, since there's no reliable way to do that without a visible, unnatural smear.

What does "insufficient bleed" mean?

It means that edge of the page's original artwork doesn't already reach the trim line, so whatever this tool fills the new bleed area with there (a detected background, a solid color, or nothing) is a generated approximation rather than real extended art - flagged so you know to check it rather than assuming it's correct.

Does this move or resize my existing content?

Not by default - it only adds bleed around your content exactly as it is. Content is only scaled or repositioned if you explicitly set a new trim size and turn on "scale content to fit."
